The 2014 Frisson Napa Cabernet Sauvignon is the quintessential expression of the Cabernet grape. The wine has an unbridled, youthful quality of plum, black cherry and olallieberry fruit that is balanced by an elegant layer of cedar, tobacco leaf and Thai basil in both the nose and on the palate. A bit headstrong, and beautifully balanced, this velvety, unctuous Cabernet embodies the best of the vineyard. With its perfectly ripe fruit, just the right amount of oak and rich tannins, the 2014 Frisson Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon should enjoy a good, long life.
This Napa cabernet has all the best features of its Diamond Mountain and Rutherford parents, beginning with pretty, high toned purple fruit and enticing, perfumery notes of spring flowers. Medium bodied, its brambly raspberry fruit character shows darker fruit highlights and a bright, precise, vibrant acidity. Restrained, nicely balanced use of oak yields a nice touch of spice and refined, polished tannins.
This is a deeper, darker, ruby red cabernet that one would expect from the landscape of the Rutherford Bench. The nose proffers a palette of blackberry and currant with a whiff of coffee and cassis. Rutherford “dust” lends its earthiness to opulent flavors that come together in a nice, palate coating mouthfeel entirely engaged in balanced acids and friendly tannins that, though big and rich, are tempered with softly round edges. The restrained use of French oak brings out intelligent complexity, and the finish just goes on and on. This wine is a cab drinker’s cab, a composition of fruit, earth and spice that is a feast for all the senses.
A complex aria of blackberry and cherry tinged with black pepper and spice fills the nose. Further study reveals chocolate, mocha, milk chocolate and vanilla, which makes for delightful anticipation of the flavors to come. The tannins are restrained for Diamond Mountain, yet significantly rich with grip and some astringency. French oak gifts spice notes and a mouthfeel that is medium to full; very balanced and proportional and it carries itself gracefully. Blackberry, chocolate, cassis… this wine evolves and changes in the glass to reveal octaves of depth and character, making it a thrill to drink and discuss.
Born in one of the most famed vineyards in Rutherford, this complex red wine exhibits an intriguing nose of violets, blueberry pie, allspice and vanilla custard, pipe tobacco. Refined, dusty tannins along with its balanced acidity complement the blue fruit and spice aromas on the finish.
