This Napa cabernet has all the best features of its Diamond Mountain and Rutherford parents, beginning with pretty, high toned purple fruit and enticing, perfumery notes of spring flowers. Medium bodied, its brambly raspberry fruit character shows darker fruit highlights and a bright, precise, vibrant acidity. Restrained, nicely balanced use of oak yields a nice touch of spice and refined, polished tannins.
This is a deeper, darker, ruby red cabernet that one would expect from the landscape of the Rutherford Bench. The nose proffers a palette of blackberry and currant with a whiff of coffee and cassis. Rutherford “dust” lends its earthiness to opulent flavors that come together in a nice, palate coating mouthfeel entirely engaged in balanced acids and friendly tannins that, though big and rich, are tempered with softly round edges. The restrained use of French oak brings out intelligent complexity, and the finish just goes on and on. This wine is a cab drinker’s cab, a composition of fruit, earth and spice that is a feast for all the senses.
