Frisson Wines Summer 2014 Newsletter

Wine, Food and Precious Medals

Frisson is having a fantastic summer!  We are drinking great wines (ours), eating great food (not ours!) and enjoying the magnificence of the incomparable Napa Valley.  What could be better?  Well, we keep getting exciting news and want to fill you in.

First, all the new Frisson family grandbabies have arrived, healthy and happy and bringing much joy to all.

Now to the wine stuff.

We are winning medals right and left for our latest releases, the 2010 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and the 2012 Dutton Ranch Russian River Chardonnay.

Critic’s Challenge International Wine Competition gave us a Platinum and a rating of 94 for our 2010 Cabernet.  Out of a field of over 1,100 wines, only 74 received this top honor.  Judges for this San Diego-based event are wine writers from all across the USA.

This from the wine blog of Robert Whitley, entitled “Ten Wines the Critics Loved”-- Frisson 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley ($60) — It's certainly no surprise when a Napa Valley Cabernet turns out to be a showstopper, but occasionally the producer raises an eyebrow. Frisson is a relatively unknown, yet its 2010 Napa cab is a familiar experience. Powerful yet balanced, with aromas of cedar and lead pencil, dark fruit, layered complexity and firm grip on the finish, this is one very classy cabernet from the California valley where cabernet is king. Rating: 94.

Wow, they get what we are trying to do!

Our Chardonnay was also honored with a Silver.  As it has spent time in the bottle, our Chardonnay has developed a beautiful personality. Light on the oak, a pleasing minerality and French-style balance, it has brought a lot of people back into the Chardonnay camp who had fled from the high-alcohol, high-sugar wines of the past.

More precious medals came our way from the San Francisco International Wine Competition, with our 2010 Napa Cabernet earning Gold, and our 2012 Russian River Chardonnay earning Bronze. Over 4,500 wines were entered in this 34 year old competition considered the largest and most prestigious international competition in the USA.

More good news?  Both of our wines earned Silver medals at the Los Angeles International Wine Competition, and our Cabernet took another Silver at the Sunset International Wine Competition sponsored by Sunset Magazine.

The most thrilling aspect of these awards to us is this—people love our wines! Frisson Wines has brought us so much fun and excitement.  It’s been a thrill to make, a pleasure to drink, and an absolute honor to be able to share with you.

Liberty Kitchen & Oysterette Frisson Wine Dinner, July 30th.

Have you been to the happening new restaurant in Houston, Liberty Kitchen & Oysterette?  They are featuring four vintages of our wines at a special wine dinner on Thursday, July 30th at 6:30 p.m.  This is their first wine dinner ever, and we are so honored they chose us.The menu looks dynamite, and Terry will be there to talk about our wines and anything else you’d enjoy talking about.   Some seats are still available for this fun evening.  Give them a call at 713-622-1010 for reservations.

A Gathering of Wines and Minds.

Yet another fun adventure for us is to participate in TEXSOM 2014 in Las Colinas, Texas in August.  We are one of a limited number of wines to be poured for evaluation by sommeliers at the Wine and Food Foundation of Texas Grand Tasting.  We are looking forward to meeting so many knowledgeable wine professionals in one place and offering the fruits of our labor for their review.

Meanwhile, back in the Valley, the sun is beaming down on our beautiful, healthy grapes, nurturing them toward maturity and complexity and their future as delightful Frisson Wines.  Our goal is to make balanced, elegant wines with fruit, alcohol, and wine craft in proper alliance so that they drink beautifully now and stand the test of time. Wines we love to drink and share with you.  Our 2012 and 2013 wines are surpassing our expectations, and promise to be even more amazing than we dreamed.  We just can’t wait to show off our 2012 Beckstoffer Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as our first born, the 2012 Diamond Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon.  We will be releasing our 2011 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon next spring as well as our 2013 Dutton Ranch Russian River Chardonnay.

If you are in Napa Valley this summer or fall, give us a call.  We’d love to see you.  You can follow us on Twitter and Instagram, @FrissonWines. If you enjoy our wines, let your friends know.  Part of the fun of this path we are on is to share our vision with others who are looking for our style of wines.
