New Frissons for the New Year

Hi everyone. We hope 2015 left you happier and healthier than ever before, and you made lots of wonderful memories with friends and family. Even better, we hope 2016 finds you optimistic, cheerful, and ready to drink some really good Frisson wine!

Our reds are rolling out of the warehouse!

The verdict is in… 2012 Diamond Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon rules!  Thank you so much for the wonderful reception it has received.  After two vintages of a Napa Valley blend, we are pleased to present our single vineyard, award winning Diamond Mountain Cabernet, 100% from the hillside vineyard where Frisson Wines got its start.  This luscious wine shows the balanced complexity and dark fruit and chocolate notes we were looking for.  In fact, it recently received a Gold Medal from the San Francisco Chronicle International Wine Competition.  Woo Hoo!! $70

You might remember that we have been looking forward to the arrival of our Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon since we harvested it on the Rutherford Bench in 2012.  After three long years, it is here, and shows all the rich brightness and “dust” this legendary Silverado Trail vineyard is famous for.  $95

Both these wines have been so well received, that we are on the home stretch toward selling out.  If you haven’t had a chance to try them, don’t miss out before they are all gone.

Quick lookback to 2015

2015 was another great year for Frisson, perhaps the best yet.  We had a gorgeous growing season, filled with bright blue skies and sparkling days and the pleasure and companionship of visits from family and friends.  No earthquakes...  that we felt anyway!

In August and September we harvested cabernet sauvignon from Stagecoach Vineyards up by Pritchard Hill on Atlas Peak, as well as from Mt. Veeder in addition to our Diamond Mountain and Rutherford sources.  2018 sounds like a long time from now, but these luxurious  wines are safely tucked away in their French oak barrels, building layers and layers of flavors, texture and aromas.

The continuing drought showed its effect, perhaps, by lower yields across the valley.  Three prior incredible vintage years may have tired the vines somewhat as well.   At any rate, the rains have begun to return, and it has been wonderful to have some puddles to splash in on the way to morning coffee and pastries at Bouchon and dinner and friends down at Ciccio.

We said a sad goodbye to our beloved Bella, “the vineyard dog” in June after 14 years of her sweet presence.  We like to think of our nine-day drive from Texas to Yountville as her last grand adventure, where she visited Marfa, Carlsbad Caverns, even the Grand Canyon.  How many Cavaliers get to say that?  In November, we welcomed the vivacious Brix, our “vineyard pup” to join us on the adventure.

Back home in Texas, we have been honored to show our wines at a series of wine dinners and tastings in Houston and Dallas We have a few more on the books this winter, and hope we might get to see you at one of them.

Another Gold Medal for our Russian River Dutton Ranch Chardonnay

The bad news, our 2012 Chardonnay is just about gone.  The good news is that our 2013 has generated a lot of excitement, as Master Sommelier Giles du Chambure reviewed, “A classic Chardonnay from Russian river combining the creamy richness of lees contact and balanced oak fermentation and aging with the delicate and restrained power that the old Wente selection gives in this well adapted coastal climate.”  The San Francisco Chronicle must agree, bestowing it with a Gold Medal at their international wine competition. $45

Sauvignon Blanc Days are on their way!

As the days get longer and warmer, our palates turn to thoughts of crisp, refreshing SB, and our 2014 is exactly how we like it.  As Giles de Chambure wrote, “A crowd pleasing style of SB balancing herbal and crisp apple and citrus notes with a rich mid palate giving it structure and length.  A California style reflecting both its cool climate coastal influence in a warmer vineyard site.  Bridges the richer and minerals style of the Loire with a more subtle hint of a New Zealand brightness.”  $25

We have a surprise coming with our 2013’s.

Recent tastings of our 2013's confirm our hopes... this is an outstanding vintage!  In  February we will be bottling our 2013’s aiming for a September release.  In addition to our Diamond Mountain and Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon’s, watch for something really exciting!  We are passionate about it, and you are going to love it!

Shipping is still $24 a case, $15 in California.

We have a few magnums and 3 liters left, and shipping is only $1 each.  Our gift box featuring our four current releases is a wonderful present to someone (or yourself) at $250 plus shipping.  As always, you can find our wines at www.frissonwines.com.

Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Vivino.

If you are into tweeting, sharing, scanning and otherwise interacting with the wine community on social media, we hope you will “like” us, if not love us!  #frissonwines,  @frissonwines, I ♥frissonwines, whatever works.  Vivino is a great place to rate our wines. We really appreciate your input, and online reviews help us get the word out.

Wishing you many frissons in 2016.

As always, we are very grateful for your support of our wines.  We never thought we would be making great wines at this point of our lives, and it is such an ongoing adventure.  It could not happen without you.  Come see us when you are in Napa Valley, and as always, if we can help you with ideas for great restaurants and other points of interest, please call or email us at frissonwines@gmail.com.

All the best in 2016,

Our mission is to make wine from grapes that want to whisper where they came from: beginning with the delicate smoke and blackberry of Diamond Mountain, to the earth and scarlet notes of fabled Rutherford dust.
